Hand taps come in different styles offering different amounts of full threads to tapered threads. Typically a plug tap will have 3-5 tapered threads, a taper tap will have 7-10 tapered threads and a bottom tap will have 1-2 tapered threads.

Plug Plug taps are the most common tap, having less tapered threads than a taper tap. Typically the first tap to be used in a drilled hole.
